Should you burn dead tokens on Solana?

Short answer: A dead token has no market or liquidity, so its balance can’t be sold. Burning destroys the balance so the account can be closed, returning its rent. It’s irreversible, so thedark only recommends it when no market exists at all.

Steps

  1. Scan. Tokens with no Jupiter price and under $200 of DEX liquidity are flagged as dead.
  2. Decide. Each one is shown individually; tokens that might still have value are unticked by default.
  3. Burn and close. BurnChecked then CloseAccount in one transaction returns the rent.

What you get back

The token balance is worthless, but the account still holds its rent deposit. Burning lets you close the account and recover that SOL.

What thedark will never do

  • Burn a token with a real market worth more than $5.
  • Burn NFTs, frozen tokens, or tokens with transfer hooks.
  • Burn anything you didn’t explicitly select.
