How to reclaim SOL rent from your Solana wallet

Short answer: Every token account holds a rent deposit. When the balance is zero, closing the account returns the deposit to you. Scan your address on thedark, review the empty accounts, and approve the close transactions in your wallet.

Steps

  1. Scan your wallet. Paste your public address on thedark.app/scan. Nothing is signed; we only read on-chain data.
  2. Review empty accounts. Every token account with a zero balance is listed with the exact SOL it holds.
  3. Connect and approve. Connect the same wallet. thedark simulates each transaction, then your wallet asks you to approve.
  4. Receive your SOL. The rent lands in your wallet as soon as the transaction confirms — usually within seconds.

Why is SOL locked in my wallet?

On Solana, every token you hold sits in its own token account. To exist on-chain, each account must keep a minimum SOL balance called rent. Accounts created before Solana's 2026 rent reduction hold about 0.00204 SOL; newer ones hold less.

When you sell a token, the account usually stays open with a zero balance — and the deposit stays locked inside it. Active traders accumulate hundreds or thousands of these.

How much can I get back?

Multiply your empty accounts by the deposit each holds. 500 legacy empty accounts ≈ 1.02 SOL. thedark reads the actual lamports in each account, so the number you see is exact.

Is closing an account safe?

Yes, when the balance is zero. The token program refuses to close an account that still holds tokens, and thedark only plans closes for empty accounts. If you buy that token again later, your wallet simply opens a new account.

What thedark checks before closing

  • The account belongs to your wallet and holds zero tokens.
  • It's not frozen and has no confidential balance.
  • Token-2022 withheld fees are harvested first so the close succeeds.
  • The whole transaction is simulated before you sign.
